Description
The Sprite was originally part of a large sculpture program for Wright’s Midway Gardens in Chicago, a city block area dedicated to entertainment. The original sculptures were larger than life and overlooked the many open air gardens, restaurants, music, and dance areas in the complex. Demolished in 1929 due to the stock market crash and the ban on liquor, the unique sculptures would have been lost if it hadn’t been for the foresight of the demolition contractor who saved them for posterity.
